“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Mon and Dad used to tell me this all the time. Is this old saying true? No, it’s not. So, where did this bit of false wisdom originate? Not from any scientific study, that’s for sure. It’s a breakfast food company’s advertising slogan. When we hear a “diet fact” or an “old dietary saying,” we must always ask, “Is this a fact, is it science, or is it advertising?”
For those folks who have been dieting for a long time, it’s easy to accumulate a lot of misinformation. The diet community calls this “Diet Brain.” I like to call my diet brain “Culinary Cerebral Disruptive Disorder.” Diet brain is all the myths, half-truths, and dietary advice that are just flat-out wrong. Anyone who has been dieting for a few years will have learned a boatload of misinformation. The sad thing is that some of this info can destroy all of your diet efforts. So anytime something sounds fishy, check it out before accepting it as fact.
The question is, “For you, is breakfast the most important meal of the day?” For about 80% of people, dinner is more important. If you are a member of the 20% who can’t live without breakfast, you should consider eating breakfast and then plan on basing your fasting window through the evening and night. In the same respect, if you are in the 80% who can live without breakfast, feel free to skip it. Either way, you are basing your fasting window during the hours you are asleep. You’re not hungry when you are sleeping, so take advantage.
