Swimming is the best stress buster

Are you stressed? So, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters? Probably not.

Stress is an internal issue, and you need to find a way to deal with it. Exercises like swimming can be one of the most effective ways to blow off steam and manage your stress. If swimming was an important part of your life in the past, then it is time to reintroduce it into your schedule. Take a moment and remember the time you spend at the pool or the beach in your younger days. Remember how much fun it was? How relaxing? If the answer is yes, it’s time to reintroduce that experience back into your weekly routine.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anxiety and depression have significantly increased in the United States in recent years. Home isolation due to covid has been a significant contributor. It may be time to bring exercise and relaxation back into your life. Better yet, make it a family activity or invite friends to join you. Group activities are a great way to reduce stress and enjoy life.

Exercise can produce feel-good hormones and chemicals in our brains. Physical activities such as swimming or other forms of exercise release chemicals such as serotonin, and endorphins are the “feel-good chemicals.”  The great thing is that you can make these drugs yourself – right inside your brain and all for free!

Swimming is great exercise, it is a low-impact activity, so it’s easy on the joints and is a great way to burn calories and improve your physical health. Swimming is a great way to work your entire body and improve your cardiovascular system. One hour of swimming can burn nearly as many calories as running for one hour and with far less joint stress.

Plan ahead schedule periods in your active life to take care of yourself; your mental and physical health is two of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy, happy lifestyle. So take a break from the stress of phone calls, texting, social media, and plan some time to work out and give yourself some feel-good time.
