Losing That Extra Weight Can Save Your Life!!!

We are constantly bombarded with advertising for diets: TV ads, newspapers, and magazines all promoting quicky diet plans, diet pills, overpriced food plans, magic diet potions, and deprivation weight loss. These annoying advertisements and their beautiful people make you believe the only reason to lose weight is for physical appearance. There are, however, many important health reasons to keep your weight under control.

If you are 20, 30, 40, 50+ and carrying around a few extra pounds, you need to hear this. You may feel perfectly healthy and happy right now, and that’s great. But, that excess weight is causing changes in your body that can ultimately lead to crushing health problems. Even a few extra pounds can lead to strokes, heart attack, type 2 diabetes, other health problems, and even premature death. It may take decades, but they will develop. In short, you have a biological timebomb ticking in your body, and you must defuse it before it’s too late!

How do I know? Here is the story of my road to medical disaster. It took 40 years of neglect and indifference, but I made it happen!!! And I only have me, myself, and I to blame. My motivation for starting this blog was the hope I could communicate the importance of weight loss and control to as many of you as possible.

Below is my lifetime weight chart.

I wasn’t born fat. It took years and years of weight gain and neglect to go from

a normal weight Jim,

to overweight Jim,

to obese Jim with serious health issues.

As you can see from the chart above, I did not gain this weight overnight; it took years. I once calculated that if I had not tried to control my weight gain, by 2010, I would have weighed 300 pounds!!! At 5’6″, a real chubo. So I tried, but it was not enough. The big problems started in 2012 when I had two nearly fatal strokes, and my right carotid artery was 98% blocked. The carotid is one of the two major arteries that carry blood to the brain. After surviving the strokes, I had surgery on the carotid to open it up. It’s incredible what increased blood flow does for your brain!

The good news.
Back in the 1970s had I known what I know today, I am sure I could have kept control of my weight and avoided my current health problems. The good news is that weight control is not as hard as you think. If your experiences are like mine and you have tried and failed. The good news is that that no longer needs to be the case. What changed? In the past 10 to 20 years, modern medicine’s understanding of weight gain and control has been turned upside-down. Your past failed diets are not your fault, and conventional deprivation diets are doomed to fail 99% of the time. The good news is, with a few simple tricks, you can win this fight for a lifetime of good health.

The key to weight loss is to combine a sensible diet with intermittent fasting. Remember your favorite diet? The one where you lost a boatload of weight but ultimately gave up because it was too much deprivation? By combining that diet and intermittent fasting, you can learn to live a lifetime of weight control. You must learn to give yourself days of reasonable indulgence and then crush the scale with fasting and nutritionally controlled days.
Trust me. You can do this. And I am here to help you every step of the way.

Food for Thought – With most deprivation diets, you are limited in your food choices 24/7. When combining fasting and diet, you only limit your eating during fasting hours.

Trouble Shooting – Sudden & unexplained weight gain during diet + fasting can result from water retention. The cause could be a cold, flu, allergies, or high sodium intake due to a high salt diet.

Answer to This Week’s Diet and Lifestyle Q&A. No. The “eat less and exercise more” approach to weight loss does not work. The are many important reasons to exercise, but weight loss is not one. The data shows that 99% of those who use this method quit within 3 to 12 months. So many things are working against you: three big ones are crushing food cravings, your natural hunger hormones, and the body’s ability to conserve energy. It’s not your fault. Deprivation diets do not work.
