Diet Drinks and Artificial Sweeteners Are not your Friends

Millions of people struggle with their weight, and many have turned to diet drinks and artificial sweeteners to help them lose weight. The truth is that diet drinks and artificial sweeteners are not your friends. In fact, these products may be making it harder for you to lose weight!!!
Trouble Shooting – Can diet drinks ruin your diet? Take the diet cola challenge. Fast for 12 to 16 hours with water and coffee or Tea – no cream or sweeteners, and then drink a diet drink. Give it a try, and let us know how it goes. When I took the diet drink challenge, I had planned to fast for 18 hours.

I fasted for 16 hours, and then I drank a diet cola, thinking I would fast for two more hours and then eat dinner. I was totally unprepared for what happened next. Within 15 minutes, I was ravenous, my stomach was growling, and I was desperate to eat something. Anything! My stomach was growling so loud my wife could hear it from across the room! I drank two 12 oz. Glasses of ice water, but still, the hunger was unbearable. It was far worse than the first few days of fasting when I first started Intermittent Fasting. I did make it to 18 hours, but the two hours after the diet drink was the worst hunger crisis I have had since I started my fasting lifestyle.

Why did this happen? Artificial sweeteners stimulate the hunger hormone ghrelin, and this hormone makes you feel hungry. I was not prepared for just how powerful ghrelin really was!

Diet drinks and artificial sweeteners are not your friends. Avoid them completely!!!

This Weeks Diet and Lifestyle Q&A – To maintain high levels of concentration or physical activity, you must eat constantly.

Food for Thought – A while back, someone told me olives were junk food. I love olives, so I spent some time on the net studying olives, and they have a low glycemic index, meaning they are great on a diet. They also are a good source of vitamin E, iron, copper, and calcium. Olives are not junk food.

Trouble Shooting – You are on a diet, it’s 3 PM, and you’re dying for a Big Mac. If your diet says you can NEVER have that sandwich, you need a new diet plan!
